Prevent waste of your own solar power

Nestore - your hot water heat battery

Nestore stores your solar power safely and provides hot tap water when you need it. The stored heat remains usable for weeks, so you don't have to buy expensive energy in the morning and evening.

Hot water consumption

What is the impact of hot water on your energy consumption?

30% to 50% of your energy demand is hot tap water and is fairly the same throughout the year. As a result, the production of hot water has a major impact on your overall energy bill.

What you may not have known about your shower

Your solar panels do not produce electricity every day, especially during the day when the sun shines. But you shower (usually) in the morning and evening when there is no sun. As a result, you will continue to purchase (expensive) electricity with the current alternatives to the central heating boiler. So you pay for your shower when there is no sun. And that is no longer necessary.

Solution: With the Nestore, you can store solar power for several days, so you always have a sustainable hot shower

Netting

Van revenues unto spending: this is the impact of the abolition of netting 2027

Current situation (2026)
Currently, you still benefit from the netting scheme and receive compensation for returned solar energy.

Abolish netting scheme by 2027
The netting scheme will be abolished as of 2027 (read more about abolishing netting here) and you only get the feed-in rate from the energy company. More and more energy companies also pay feed-in costs (also known as a “return penalty”).
In the absence of storage, you still buy expensive energy for that hot shower at peak hours in the morning and evening.

With an average system of 10 solar panels, you return 70% of the generated electricity (approximately 2,450 kWh) to the grid. From 2027, you will only get a fraction of the value in return, while paying the top prize in the evening. For a household with 10 to 14 panels, this loss amounts to €500 to €1,000 per year.

This is the impact of abolition, netting for the van Steenwijck family.

Family with 2 growing children and 10 solar panels
• Generation: 3,500 kWh
• Personal use (30%): 1,050 kWh (This is “free” electricity) • Feedback (70%): 2,450 kWh of electricity cannot be used immediately and therefore flows back into the grid.

Current situation (2026)

€735

Benefit per year

You're crossing out 2,450 kWh (70%)
Value: 2,450 x €0.30 = €735 advantage.

Netting after the abolition (2027)

€0

Benefit per year

You will receive “reasonable compensation” (approx. 50% of the bare rate).
Value: 2,450 x €0.06 = €147 income.
Note: Suppliers can still charge fixed return costs from this, so that the net revenue can go towards €0 or even negative.

Difference from 2027

€500 - €800

Loss per year if you do nothing

The difference between €735 received (now) and €147 (soon) is €588. Add to that the fixed return costs (average €100-200/year,) and you end up with a loss of around €500 - €600 per year.

Who Nestore makes a difference for

Homeowners with
solar panels and dynamic rates
“Finally, I use my energy when I need it and we benefit from affordable charging at off-peak rates”
Families with high comfort needs and limited space, with a lot of hot water use
“Two adolescent children at home,
but the energy bill is under control”
Homeowners with solar panels who want to increase their own use
“We are finally using > 80% of our own solar power generation”
Households that seek more independence and sustainability
“Hot water is now becoming as self-sufficient as your solar power.”

Impact/year
1. Gas replacement (tap water)
300 m³ of gas (= 30% of gas consumption goes to showers and hot water)

€426
2. Effect of netting protection
You use ~1,400 kWh (= 40% - from 30% to 70%) of your own electricity directly for showers and hot water. You avoid expensive purchasing (€0.30) and “loss of sales” (€0.06). Net benefit: €0.24/kWh.

3. Avoided return costs
Due to higher self-consumption (from 30% to ~ 70%), you pay less/no fixed return costs to the supplier.

💡 Self-generated and used power

They do not pay taxes on electricity that people generate themselves and use directly. They also pay no costs to the energy supplier about this. Using self-generated electricity directly therefore reduces the energy bill. In addition, it reduces pressure on the electricity grid.

3. Hot Tap Water Costs: In an average family, 20% to 30% of gas consumption goes to showers and hot water (approx. 270-300 m³ per year). In well-insulated homes, this amounts to 50% of the total energy bill.

4. Losses of Standard Boilers: Reports from Top Sector Energy/RVO show that conventional boilers and heat pump boilers lose 20-40% of energy every day due to downtime. Nestore reduces this to < 1% per day.

This comparison is based on independent market data and technical reports from 2025/2026.
1. Capacity: 5—10 kWh of storage in a home is usually sufficient for self-consumption of solar power. For hot tap water, the energy demand is higher and concentrated at peak times. That's why Nestore has an increased storage capacity of 20—30 kWh.
ANWB: Home Batteries & [CE Delft: Analysis 2024]
2. Solar heater vs. Nestore: A traditional solar boiler (thermal) only covers a fraction of the heat demand in the winter and requires extensive demolition work for pipes to the roof. Nestore works on the basis of solar panels (PV) that also provide power in the winter, and can smartly recharge with cheap electricity.
Environment Central: Solar Boiler vs. Heat Pump Boiler
3. Downtime losses: TNO tests show that standard boilers lose 20-40% energy every day due to heat leakage. Nestore limits this to < 2% per day thanks to vacuum insulation.
[TNO Validation Report] & [Top Sector Energy: Report on Tap Water Options 2024]
4. Installation impact: A heat pump boiler requires air ducts to the outside (drill holes). For a solar boiler, pipes must be pulled through the home. Nestore only requires a water and electricity connection. Nestore also does not require a sewer system, which provides extra flexibility for the installation location.
